Bangalore or Bengaluru? The Historical Monuments

Bangalore Palace (1862) is located near Mekhri Circle and Cantonment Railway station and is built to look like a smaller replica of the Windsor Castle in England. The Bangalore Palace was the private residence of the royal Wodeyar family. Filled with an interesting and eclectic collection of art and paraphernalia from a bygone era, the palace grounds are a popular venue for rock concerts and other music events.

The Neo-Dravidian-style Vidhana Soudha is the seat of the state legislature of Karnataka. It is an imposing granite building, built in the year 1956, incorporates elements of Indo-Saracenic, Rajasthani Jharokha and Dravidian styles. Vidhana Soudha is the brainchild of Kengal Hanumanthaiah and built by chief engineer B.R. Manickam. Though it cannot be visited, it can be viewed from the outside.

Cubbon Park is located in the heart of the city and spreads over 300 acres. The part was created in the year 1884, by Major General Richard Sankey. Cubbon Park dons many hats: a green lung in the heart of the city that also hosts a library, museums, a tennis academy, an aquarium, a toy train and many statues and pavilions. It’s probably one of the only parks to have a busy road cutting through it. The park is home to numerous trees and plants that span over 68 general and 96 species.

ISKCON (International Society for Krishna Consciousness) Temple Bangalore, built in an ornate architectural style, the Krishna Temple is a blend of modern technology and spiritual harmony. The 7-acre temple is situated on west of chord road, Rajajinagar and finest fusion of modern and traditional elements of architecture.

One of Bangalore’s busiest markets, the K.R market, hides this surprise: an elegant fort built by Tipu Sultan, with teak pillars and frescoes. Bangalore Fort is located in vicinity of the Tipu Sultan's Summer Palace.

Tipu Sultan's Summer Palace was built in 1791. It is located near K.R Market, is a two-storied ornate wooden structure with exquisitely carved pillars, arches and balconies. It houses a museum that contains artifacts relating to the Hyder-Tipu regime.
