Shooting with the "Lock" Functions (AF and AE)

The Auto Focus (AF) can be locked. After locking the focus, the focal distance will not change even when you release your finger from the shutter button.

The steps are easy:
  1. Keep the shutter button pressed halfway and press the LEFT button (MF) on the Control Dial.
  2. The Manual Focus (MF) indicator will appear on the LCD screen once the focus is locked.
  3. Compose the scene and shoot.
  4. To release the lock, release the shutter button, press the LEFT button again to choose normal focus.
  5. The MF indicator will disappear and MF will unlock.

The Auto Exposure (AE) can be locked as well. You can lock the exposure and shoot, or set the focus and exposure separately to shoot. I suggest setting this as the Shortcut button to avoid lag in your composition.

The trick is similar to AF Lock:
  1. Point the camera towards the subject or background to get the exposure you desire.
  2. Press the UP button (exposure compensation) while pressing the shutter button halfway.
  3. The exposure will be locked when * appears on the screen.
  4. Compose the scene and shoot.
  5. If you release the shutter button and press the UP button again, the * will disappear and AE will unlock.
  6. Doing the same steps with the flash ON will initiate the Flash Exposure (FE) Lock.
