Cambodia Trip - S95's Miniature Effect

From the top of Phimianakas Temple.
The S95 has many amazing features which is accessible from the SCN mode. The Miniature Effect is undoubtedly an interesting one to try. There are a few steps for this:
  1. Switch the mode dial on top to SCN.
  2. Press the FUNC/SET button and turn the dial on the back to Miniature Effect then press FUNC/SET button again.
  3. You can now shoot your photos (the mode seems to apply a color vividness or extra saturation as well as image blur to the top and bottom of the photo). The area in focus is inside the white box.
  4. Choose the area to be focused by shifting this white box to another part of the frame (pressing the DISP button then press up and down).
  5. You can compose your shots either vertically or horizontally by pressing the FUNC/SET button after pressing the DISP button.

It seemed to me that the difference in contrasting effect is strongest if everything across the focus box is roughly the same distance from the camera. Having distinct foreground and background objects in the focus area will render the effect. If you leave the SCN mode at Miniature Effect, you will still be in this mode the next time you switch the mode dial back to SCN.

For S95, I found out that you can also do Miniature Effect in video recording. Switch the mode dial to Movie, then press FUNC/SET button and turn the control dial to the Miniature Effect icon. For extra spasticity, miniature movies could be sped up to 5x, 10x or 20x, which you can select by pressing the DISP button before the MENU button.
